![]() The seat is on a slider, allowing six inches of travel to maximize room for passengers or for cargo. Indeed, this second-row offered me plenty of room for my knees and the deep openings below the front row gave me room to stretch out. There’s also way more legroom in the backseat, more than the Chevy Suburban according to Ford. ![]() Even with the lower roofline, the headroom, hip room and shoulder room in the back seat are improved from the outgoing model. If you’re like me, your Escape will haul friends and other adults in the back seat, and this is where the 2020 Escape shines. I did miss ventilated seats on the Titanium model. The Escape SE ditches the wood for a sleek silver trim. Buttons are easy to reach and there is a decent amount of small storage areas in the center console, the doors and a small cubby in the middle that you can option a wireless charger for starting next year. I really like the diamond pattern on the doors of the Titanium model I tested, and I would rather see a continuation of that pattern to the dash instead of faux wood trim, but that’s a personal styling preference. The front seats are comfortable and there are soft-touch materials throughout the cabin. Haven't really seen many problems with them (the interior layout and features leaves a lot to be desired IMO but the drivetrain seems quite reliable). You’ll find a spacious cabin upfront with a roomier feel thanks to the new dial shifter. If you haven't bought one yet, I'd also say to also check out the Outlander PHEV - for some reason the Quebec Government and Hydro Quebec loved them so much that they integrated them into their fleets. The big reason I skew towards the Toyota is for the reliability/longevity since I drive about 5x the mileage of most people and into some pretty far out places. Honestly if I was on the lookout for a commuter vehicle, it would be on the top of my list. The Escape easily has the smoothest drive experience. ![]() The immediate downshift or jerk is definitely not there in the Escape (I feel so awesome cruising around at low speeds in it - the Rav4's tend to kick in the engine quickly but the Escape manages to squeeze every little bit of juice out of the battery). If you're still in the researching phase, a close contender (which I personally prefer) is the Rav4 Hybrid XLE.Įxcellent point! Yes I actually just wrapped up two weeks on a Tucson and I totally hated everything about it. There's a bit to improve (in terms of comforts and "would be nice" - the core vehicle functions are still perfect), but it's an excellent and safe SUV. Can be quite unnerving at first but you get used to it. There's a lot of odd noises as the hybrid system engages/disengages/assists. The issue goes away after a few hundred km's of driving (I had a check engine light for a while and the original error threw out multiple malfunction warnings).īackup camera sometimes glitches in the rain/presence of moisture. Because of the electronic shifting, you need to be careful with that. If you shift too quickly from reverse to drive, you'll sometimes run into a major issue where the vehicle will essentially not let you shift out of park for a few power cycles and throw out some error codes. Some pillar trim panels can be a bit loose. You'll sometimes come into issues where the window will roll up all the way and then back down because it encounters an obstacle. On both vehicles, the driver side window would have problems - there appears to be components rubbing up against the glass that give it resistance. This can be really annoying at times and you'll likely have to go to the dealer to get it fixed. Some manufacturing defects (I'm in Canada) that tend to stand out īass rattle from the trunk area. The LED lights with the auto (gradual increase) high beams are extremely useful for night driving and the fog lights are DAMNED bright.Ĭabin is quiet at highway speeds and the ADAS is very useful at keeping it within the lanes and assisting for brief "wiggle my fingers" rests. Lane changes in slushy weather are very solid and the various drives modes do make for an enjoyable user experience.ĭesign and look is awesome. The vehicle takes on potholes and other road obstacles easily. The suspension is solid and handles both summer and winter driving well. Fuel efficient with an awesome look and solid driving feel. Just throwing my thoughts out there regarding my experience.Īn amazing car PACKED with technology and comfortable to drive. ![]() So I've had the opportunity to drive two different Escape vehicles (work lease vehicles - tons of mileage on em in all sorts of weather conditions). ![]()
